An Irish Christmas

An Irish Christmas
Shuffling feet down Grafton Street,
Butlers in hand, who knows who you’ll meet?
It's the last-minute shopping,
followed up with a Guinness,
A little giddy feeling stirring within us.
Calendars chocka with Christmas invites,
From pantos to the work do,
with their selection of mini bites.
School pals is a big night, and the cousins' don't forget!
WhatsApp group plans, and friends
it’s been a year since you've met.
A wee dip in the sea, if you're that way inclined,
Or you work away, I'll start the veg – I don't mind.
Mimosas with neighbours who bring their best pâté,
Smoked salmon on brown bread and chicken
skewers with a satay.
Crackers are pulled, plates overflowing the side,
Little ones showing Santa toys,
smiles brimming with pride.
When you need a break from the games,
armed with scarves big and chunky,
On a little stroll with loved ones,
how we're so very lucky.
In all the small rituals, chaos and cheer,
You appreciate how wonderful
it is that we’re here.
About the Charities
LauraLynn
LauraLynn is a hospice for children with life-limiting conditions and residential care for children and young adults with disabilities. We employ approximately 140 staff within our teaching, fundraising and care provision departments.
LauraLynn, Ireland’s Children’s Hospice was formed in 2011 following the merging of the long-standing Children’s Sunshine Home and the LauraLynn Foundation, founded by Jane and Brendan McKenna. It provides a ‘Community of Care’ that comprises the only children’s hospice in Ireland (LauraLynn Hospice Service) as well as two local disability services (LauraLynn Disability Service).
Wicklow Animal Welfare
Wicklow Animal Welfare is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs, cats, and horses from all over the county and beyond. Fiona Gammell of WAW has spent nearly 50 years rescuing animals.
